Lviv, Ukraine, in Eastern Europe, is where we are making the "magic" and is the perfect location to create these amazing instruments. Ukraine is the home of several instruments relative to the harp guitar, including the Bandura and Torban.
Lviv is the perfect location for lutherie; nestled in the Carpathian Mountains, the "Green Pearl of Ukraine", where "Old World Craftsmanship" is built into each instrument.

Concert and Tour Schedule
May, 2012 - Lviv and Kyiv, Ukraine
I'm very pleased to announce that Harp Guitarist, Professor John Doan will be visiting Ukraine to meet me and my "Harp Guitar Team" in May. John will be touring Europe and Russia performing and teaching the harp guitar.

John and I will be performing and conducting several master guitar classes and concerts at various locations in Lviv and Kyiv, Ukraine. John's visit will be historic moment for Ukraine and the advancement of the of the Harp Guitar taking this fascinating instrument to a new level. Here is the schedule for the week of his visit:
May 5 - Concert in the main City Square of Lviv (1:30 pm)
May 6 - Guitar Master Class at the Music School of Lviv followed by a formal concert at the Chamber Music Hall, Lviv. (10 am) - photo left.
May 7 - Concert 7 pm. National Museum of Medicine, Kyiv
May 8 - Guitar Master Class - Kyiv Conservatory (11 am)
May 9 - Harp Guitar and bluegrass jam BBQ and potluck in Gnyden village (11 km east of Kyiv)! A new first for the locals, harp guitars, banjos, fiddles and a Vegas style BBQ! (1 pm)
All events and concerts are free and open to the public.
My harp guitar project in Ukraine is getting international attention with my instruments now in the USA, Canada, UK and Italy. My "team" is growing as well as the product line. Many more exciting instruments are on the drawing board, all at a very low and reasonable price, so the general public can enjoy playing a harp guitar and similar instruments. I'm also increasing the quality and quantity of my arrangements for these instruments.
My move to Ukraine has been very productive with many new discoveries in the local music and culture. I had no idea that so much music that is enjoyed in the West, in particular bluegrass and old time, originated from eastern Europe.
Some of the more fascinating instruments in eastern Europe are the Tsymbaly (hammered dulcimer), Lira (hurdy gurdy) and Torban, also known as the harp lute, or Theorbo (photo below).
Harp Guitar - Song of the Month: "The Water is Wide"
This month's Harp Guitar song is based on the concluding song at the Harp Guitar Gathering. It's one of the first songs that I learned on the harp guitar and I decided to re-arrange it and include vocals and the other bluegrass instruments, Banjo, Fiddle, Dobro, Mandolin, Bass and (ahem...) regular six string Guitar. :) The additional free scores for the other instruments are on my main bluegrass/acoustic web, www.jaybuckey.com
The performance notes are included with the transcriptions. The harp guitar arrangement uses the new, "harp guitar tablature".
